When our infantry company was in Korea, we would spend three months patrolling the DMZ and then three months of training and maintenance a few miles south of there in a idyllically named place called Blue Lancer Valley, before doing the same thing over again. When back in BLV, I was company XO and one of my “additional duties as may be assigned” was a once-a-month trip to the local orphanage. Since “we” were the reason most of the kids there were there, it seemed like the reasonable thing to do.
